The 2020 Perth Royal Show Must Go On!
July 4, 2020
The Premier Mark McGowan together with Paul Carter Immediate Past President and David Thomas newly elected President of the Royal Agricultural Society of WA (RASWA) today (July 4) announced that “The 2020 Perth Royal Show must go on and will go on!”
Over the past few weeks and particularly since the State Government eased COVID-19 restrictions to stage 4 level and potentially stage 5 level, the State Government has been working with RASWA to ascertain if a Perth Royal Show could be staged in 2020. Following the great effort all Western Australians made with COVID-19, it was felt the community deserved a Perth Royal Show and what better way to celebrate than at Perth’s biggest event.
It is anticipated that the 2020 Perth Royal Show may have some slight differences, but it will have just as much agriculture, entertainment, displays, animals, food and fireworks than previous years.
“This year’s Show will have a real community vibe where as a community we will come together to celebrate our achievement as a state and acknowledge our great farmers and farming community, together with many of our industry sectors that have suffered during this COVID-19 period.” said Peter Cooper CEO RASWA.
Many industry sectors have suffered since COVID-19 became a reality and the Show this year is gearing up to support these sectors and overall, look to kick start parts of the community and economy. Discussion is currently underway with a number of sectors, including Tourism, Small Business, Arts & Entertainment, Not for Profit and many marginalised groups that need support at this point in time.
“There is nothing more exciting than creating and building a Perth Royal Show” said Peter Cooper CEO RASWA. “This year’s Show will be a Special Show, as we promote many of our industry sectors who need the support of the community. These will include tourism and many tour operators being located in a single major pavilion, where we will encourage visitors to “Wander out Yonder” and visit the regions of our great state. We will also be working with Not for Profit organisations to showcase the great work they do for our community and how we can support them and their work, and we will also be working hard to promote the Arts, Entertainment, Small Business, Retail and all those sectors that need our support” further stated Mr Cooper.
The Premier and RASWA CEO were also happy to advise that there will be further incentives for the public, with a flat $60 Family Ticket being available at any time leading up to and during the Show. The price of an Adult ticket has also been reduced to $25 from $32 and there will be a Half Price Kids Day and Half Price Seniors Day. The spectacular Fireworks will also be a feature of the 8 days of this years Perth Royal Show – September 26 to October 3, 2020.
“With under 3 months until the first day of the 2020 Perth Royal Show, there are many key stakeholders and supporters that we need to work with to bring this together and we will be working very closely with them to make this great event happen. I thank them in advance for their ongoing and critical support” said Mr Cooper.
Mr David Thomas President of the Royal Agricultural Society of WA further stated that “ The RASWA Council held out for as long as possible to give the 2020 Perth Royal Show every chance to be staged and now with the great support of the State Government of WA, our many sponsors and supporters, our members and all the Show operators, this is now possible.” Mr Thomas also stated that “the many affiliated Regional Agricultural Societies that are staged each year throughout the regions of WA have also been impacted, so a visit to the Perth Royal Show or into the regions of WA will assist them greatly – please give them your support.” “Furthermore, at the 2020 Perth Royal Show please take the opportunity to “Thank a Farmer” and leave a note of support for the outstanding work they do to ensure we have quality, pristine food and drink for our families.”
“RASWA is an extremely proud not for profit organisation, that since 1831 has represented the values and spirit of the farming and agricultural community. We have brought the country to the city and educated families, students, young adults and people of all ages about agriculture.” said Mr Thomas.
Finally, the Premier of WA encouraged all Western Australians to visit this year’s Special Perth Royal Show, as it will be a Show to remember, have fun with family and friends and at the same time support many of the people and sectors that currently need our help.
