RASWA Continues to Support WA Artists with the Return of the Perth Royal Art Prize for 2024

April 9, 2024

The prestigious Perth Royal Art Prize has returned for 2024 with a prize pool of $24,000 on offer for artworks that interpret the theme of Landscape.

Established by the Royal Agricultural Society of WA (RASWA) in 1974, the Perth Royal Art Prize for Landscape has grown in artistic calibre each year, with many artists using the competition to launch their careers and going on to make significant contributions to the arts community in WA and beyond.

As one of the preeminent art competitions in Western Australia, it is the leading prize for art based on landscape in the State. First prize is a generous $20,000 and is non-acquisitive; providing the winning artist with the opportunity to sell their work at the prize exhibition.

There are four awards up for grabs in the 2024 Royal Art Prize including the 2024 Royal Art Prize that will see the winner take home the $20,000 main prize, the Emerging Artist Award with a $500 prize and two highly commended awards.

All works will be exhibited to the public and will be available for sale. Apart from the chance to showcase their work to the public, the exhibition presents an excellent opportunity for finalists to network; forge new connections, and discover new markets for their work, including through the extensive reach of the Royal Art Prize’s online sales platform.

For the Perth Royal Art Prize’s Curator, Sandra Murray, the return of the prize is of vital importance to the WA visual arts sector.

“As the only prize in the State dedicated to landscape and solely for WA based artists, the Prize supports artists with the welcome opportunity to be presented in a highly coveted award. We offer a prominent platform for artists to have their work in a curated, professionally presented exhibition.”

The Prize focuses on the interpretation of landscape as a significant genre. I encourage artists from all stages of their career from emerging to established to enter.”

The Royal Art Prize exhibit will be shown outside the Perth Royal Show time, offering free daily access to visit the exhibition at the Wilkinson Pavilion Gallery from 13 to 21 July, with ample free parking available.

Entries for the 2024 Perth Royal Art Prize for Landscape are open from Monday 18 March and close midnight on Sunday 19 May 2024.
