RASWA awards a “Volunteer of the Year” to recognise the outstanding contribution an individual makes to the Society throughout the year. The award is presented at the beginning of the Royal Show. Criteria for the award include:
- Length of service with the Royal Agricultural Society of WA
- Willingness to assist/contribute
- Leadership, creativity, cooperation
- Interpersonal skills
RASWA Volunteer of the Year 2016 John Hitchcock receiving his award
The 2016 Volunteer of the Year award was presented to John Hitchcock, supervisor of the Heritage Team Projects and a volunteer for seven years. A wheat/sheep farmer for many years in Meckering, John has brought a wide range skills and knowledge to his role at the Royal Show, as well as a calm and friendly leadership style.
Responsible for managing restoration projects in the Heritage section, not only has John devoted large amounts of his personal time over the years but he has acquired many pieces of hard to find equipment and built up a solid team of volunteers with specialist skill sets.
